Red Bull youth America’s Cup

In 2017, Bermuda hosted the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup as part of the 35th America’s Cup event. The Red Bull Youth America’s Cup, gives some of the best young sailors in the world, the chance to showcase their talent and create an incredible level of excitement for the subsequent Americas Cup. Twelve teams battled it out over an enthralling 9 days of competition, before Great Britain’s Land Rover BAR Academy were crowned Champions in a dramatic final day of racing. The event was extremely well received and brought a great level of publicity to the island and competition.

Overview

The brief for Grapefruit was to transform 8 high performance sailing catamarans, previously used for the America’s Cup World Series, into branded competition boats, with full livery covering all of the hulls, sails and wings. The challenging factor to consider was that 12 teams had to share the 8 boats, meaning that multiple rebranding was required before and during the event.

Throughout the project we worked closely with the event organisers to schedule and manage numerous aspects of the branding. Our team were on site in Bermuda for 12 weeks in total, providing support and management, before and during the event. Our expert installers worked tirelessly, often through the night in between days of competitive sailing to ensure that all branding requirements were delivered.

The Challenge

The Red Bull Youth America’s Cup was a great spectacle and provided the perfect introduction to the 35th America’s Cup. We created stunning race graphics, giving Red Bull and all respective team sponsors an on water presence, which was perfectly matched by the dramatically competitive sailing and grandstand finale.
